Release of Records i somnis by Juli Garreta

The following Tuesday 6th of April, Girona will host the release event of the Records i somnis CD, the first recording of the complete voice and piano music by the composer Juli Garreta Arboix (1875-1925), from Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Catalonia, Spain). The CD has been recorded by the tenor Roger Padullés, together with the pianist Francisco Poyato. The event will take place on the 6th of April at 7 p.m. in the  Casa de Cultura de Girona‘s Aula Magna. Not only the two performers will be present, but also the catalan musicologist and specialist in the life and work of Juli Garreta, Joaquim Rabaseda. The event will be chaired by the honorable Mr. Albert Piñeira, 2nd vice president of the Diputació de Girona (Girona Provincial). At the end of the event, the performers will play a selection of pieces from the CD.

Access to the event is free but with limited capacity and prior registration. Register filling the following form.

Records i somnis (Memories and dreams) is the first world recording including all 21 songs preserved of Juli Garreta (it is believed that he composed nearly sixty songs). The lyrics (composed between the years 1900 and 1907) are from various authors: Francesc Matheu, Jacint Verdaguer, Gregori Zanné, Salvador Albert, Josep Calzada, Apel·les Mestres, and Víctor Català. The CD also includes folk songs such as Corranda, La molinera, and L’hereu Riera, and one sacred work: Ave Maria.

This has been made possible thanks to a dedicated research on the works (big part of them unpublished) by Juli Garreta preserved in Biblioteca de Catalunya, (Library of Catalonia) and Palau de la Música Catalana (Palace of Catalan Music), among others.

Concert in Barcelona

The following day, Wednesday 7th of April at 7 p.m., the release concert of the CD will take place in Barcelona’s L’Auditori in the Chamber Music season. The audience will be able to enjoy the live audition of all the songs that make up the album.

You can buy the album here.
